NKY History Hour: Cincinnati's Abandoned Subway Project - Past, Present, and Future

Tuesday, October 1, 2024 (6:30 PM - 7:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Beneath the bustling streets of Cincinnati lies a hidden relic of a forgotten dream—a two-mile subway tunnel that was once part of a grand plan to transform urban transportation. In 1920, Cincinnati embarked on a bold journey to build a 16-mile rapid transit system that promised to reshape travel in the region. Yet, nearly a century later, the project remains unfinished, with the subway tunnel silently waiting beneath Central Parkway, untouched and unexplored by most.   What went wrong? Why did this visionary project halt after 10 miles of construction? And what might the future hold for this mysterious tunnel, which has captivated the imagination of locals for generations?

Join us for the next virtual NKY History Hour as author Jacob Mecklenborg delves into the abandoned and unfinished subway, revealing untold stories and fresh research of this once-grand project.
